Hello once again, everyone. This is the director of Force of Will.
This time I’m here to inform you that the card “Reflect, Child of Potential/Refrain, Child of Convergence” (Referred to later as R/R) is going to be banned in the coming weeks.
Banned format: New Frontiers
Ban begins: September 1st, 2016
For more than half a year, whether or not to ban R/R has been the dominant topic of many of our meetings. Week after week, we have debated as your opinions were made aware to us by our English staff.
Banning a card is a big step for a game and I didn’t want to make such a decision without a sufficient amount of information and careful consideration.
The reasons we debated this so often in our meetings:
・While R/R as a ruler was very popular the decks themselves had variety and which decks were popular were changing frequently.
・Would banning R/R be too unfair to those who had obtained that ruler and only wished to use it and no other?
・Would this be unfair to those that were planning for the next WGP season in a world without a banned card?
Due to these and other factors, it was difficult for a decision to be reached.
Why we finally reached a decision:
While the amount of decks using R/R was high, much of it was because many players felt there was no other option. We want palyers to feel that they can have fun with all sorts of rulers and decks, especially with how much work we put into the rulers of the Lapis Cluster.
Additionally, when creating a new deck we didn’t want a player’s first thought to be how to counter R/R.
What we’ve learned:
I and the development team have taken greater care to restrain the power scope of rulers, especially regarding abilities that a free in most every sense, yet still generate advantage for that player.
Already you can see evidence of this with how many rulers function from “The Twilight Wanderer” onward.
To all the players, those that were upset with us over this card, those that worked hard to create decks that counter R/R, those that loved the card, I cannot apologize enough.
We sincerely hope you will understand our reasons for this decision.Your support and enthusiasm when voicing your opinions on how we can all improve the game together never ceases to amaze us. We’ll continue to put our heart and soul into making the game an enjoyable experience for everyone!
Thank you, from all of us at Force of Will.
