The Strangers of New Valhalla: Preview Article 10 - Hatred Never Dies~

Happy New Years Eve Rulers!

We are here in the last week of spoilers before we release everything next week! Let’s dig in!

First off, we have the return of Astema! This ancient wanderer has come to the aid of Lucifer, and she is quite unhappy with the world she has been awoken into. A 700/600 flying resonator for three is nothing to write home about initially, however Astema has a lot more going for her! First, her resonator typing allows her to work well with the likes of Belial and other Fallen Angel based resonators effects. As we continue to read, we see she comes in and takes 500 life from your opponent. Note that this life loss is far harder to prevent than simple damage. This effect is boosted even further by becoming 500 life to the controller of Astema if you control 3 revealed runes! If only we had low cost runes to make that doable... ;) Next, we see that we can pay 400 life to draw a card. The price of Astema’s knowledge is your life! Finally, we see Astema can cause life loss by trading 1000 of your own life points for 500 of your opponents. Lucifer players will now be able to manipulate their life totals to their advantage, on top of being able to play cards like Beliail for the reduced cost more consistently! A fitting Fallen Angel for Lucifer as one of the original Valhalla warriors~

Next up, we see Lucifer’s newest Master Rune! A six cost rune that becomes a 3 cost when played with the appropriate Ruler, Soul Prison is a unique removal spell. While not doing damage, or using a destroy effect, Soul Prison causes a resonator to lose 1000 DEF. In addition, it grants the resonator an automatic ability that allows a Lucifer player to return the destroyed resonator to THEIR field! The opponent has a Mosasaurus blocking your way? Wouldn’t it be a shame if it died and became Lucifer’s resonator?! Finally, remember that even if the effect doesn’t directly kill the targeted resonator, the automatic ability to return to play under Lucifer’s control doesn’t wear off until the end of turn. Sometimes a bit of combat damage and a Soul Prison can be the perfect combination to bring down even the biggest threats! No one would blame you for targeting your own Athenia as well if you happened to find her in one of your decks for massive advantage if your opponents find themselves without a resonator to banish!

Next up, we have Caspiel, a powerful finisher in limited games. Lucifer’s friends seem to have some great artwork, don’t they?! While not overly complicated, Caspiel does exactly what a bomb needs to do. Fly, provide initial value on his Enter, and hit very hard for a 6 drop!

Finally, we have Chaining Hatred, an expensive Rune, but a powerful one nonetheless. Chaining Hatred shows that Astema is not the type of Fallen Angel to scorn. Her hatred flows through the battlefield, affecting everything and everyone that she crosses paths with. This is the type of rune that will set you up for an alpha-strike for game in a limited board when the game-state has stalled, or even if you are trying to go wide on board wipes when you don’t have higher rarity options available to you.

With that said, I hope you’ve enjoyed the spoilers today! Remember to share the Facebook article for your chance to win today's preview cards!
