The Strangers of New Valhalla: Preview Article 6 - There is Sand in My Boot!

Here we are, Rulers, with our second week of Fire spoilers.

Please Enjoy!!

Woah, look at the stats on him! I suppose he is an ancient Giant after all... Surtr has come to deal damage, as his hefty quintuple-Fire cost is balanced by his 1500/1500 body, bigger than most threats in the format. In addition, if you have three Fire runes revealed from your rune deck, he does 800 damage to each resonator, providing a field clear effect. Be careful, though, as he deals damage to himself as well through this method~ It look's like Isis's support is finally starting to wake up!

Speaking of dealing damage to himself, whenever he’s dealt damage (even through his own ability!!), he searches out a Sand resonator with total cost three or less. And here we see our first such Sand resonator in Searing Wall of Sand, a whopping 0/1500 defensive powerhouse with a pump effect for late-game damage. Each Searing Wall will help provide cover for you to swing with your giant Surtr, ensuring that your life points are still safe on your opponent’s turn. Man, I hope we have more sand resonators in the future!

While on the topic of improved abilities from a large number of revealed runes, check out Ruins Beneath The Sands! This addition helps gradually lower your opponent’s overall life total or clear your opponent’s small blockers to make that Surtr kill turn all the more easy. For two will, this addition can take over a game by itself, especially in multiples. It looks like Surtr's resting place is going to help in multiple ways as it can trigger Surtr's effect even if your opponent decides not to fight with the Giant, or slowly melt away their life total!

Sandora’s Invasion provides a new rune to play in your Surtr deck as well, searching the top five cards of your deck for a total cost 3 resonator (which can be Searing Wall!), a total cost 2 resonator, and a total cost 1 resonator. This lets you get three resonators for the low cost of four will, a powerful effect for a card that starts in your rune deck! This should allow for some midrange diversity for a typically-aggro attribute.

What do you think, Rulers? Excited to try out some new Fire shenanigans? Let us know in the comments!
