Hello Rulers!

Today we bring you a new Q&A article. As usual, over the past months, the Development Team has been working closely hand in hand with the Judge Team to review interactions, clarify rulings, and ensure that any questions or concerns can be addressed as quickly and effectively as possible.

Thanks to this collaborative effort, we hope that you’ll find this article very useful as we head into the new 2025–2026 competitive event season, which, although already underway, truly kicks off next weekend with a GP in America and another GP in Spain.

Letter from a Mother to a Daughter (Card TOP-005)

Question: If the condition for [Trigger] is met, can I play this card in any phase other than the battle phase?

Answer: Yes. The controller of this card chooses all decisions during the resolution of the card, and both sentences of the card are independent and therefore this card could be used in two different ways: a) destroying a very specific attacker and then preventing some less specific attacks for the rest of the turn, or b) preventing some attacks without destroying one specific attacker.

The Mysteries of Fiethsing (Card MP03-089)

Question: The chase area is empty. On their turn, my opponent plays a chant spell. I play "The Mysteries of Fiethsing," which copies itself "as you play this card." How many times does "The Mysteries of Fiethsing" copies itself, one or two times?

Answer: Two times. "The Mysteries of Fiethsing" is moved to the chase and then is copied, and therefore, the number of chant spells in the chase area is two: "The Mysteries of Fiethsing" and the chant played by the opponent.

Zhenwu, Dragonborn Lord (ATD-003) + Parrot Dragon (MP01-075)

Question: Does Zhenwu, Dragonborn Lord (ATD-003) trigger Parrot Dragon (MP01-075) when its put into the hand from deck?

Answer: No. For Parrot Dragon, or any other card triggering from destination while moving from an area to another area, it needs to be revealed by a part of the effect before moving from the area of origin to the area of destination.

For clarification, we are including the following clarification in the CR with immediate effect:

906.3b. If a player plays an automatic object from a hidden area, the source of that automatic object and all information of the source are considered public information until that automatic object leaves the chase area. If that happens, its controller shows the source of the automatic object being played to all players until that automatic object leaves the chase area. This does not count as “revealing” that card. If the source of the automatic object moves to another hidden area before the automatic object leaves the chase area, it stays “shown” also in the new area until the automatic object leaves the chase area. Exceptions to this rule are automatic abilities that trigger when a card is moved from a hidden area to another hidden area. If they do, for them to trigger, the card needs to be revealed by a part of the effect before moving from the area of origin to the area of destination.

Also, for even more clarification, we are merging rules 302.2b and 302.2c into this new rule in the CR with immediate effect:

302.2b+2c. If a player wants to perform an action that requires information from public areas that have cards whose information is hidden to any player, or a player who has access to hidden information wants to perform an action that requires knowledge or verification of that hidden information from another player that cannot see that hidden information, the player performs the action ignoring the cards in those public areas whose information is not public to all players, ignoring also the information on those cards for the effects of that action.

Brunhild, Radiant Dawnblade (MP03-009) + Liberation of the Darknesses (JRP-059)

Question: In which order does the [Call of Valhalla] replacement effects resolve if both players control a resonator with [Call of Valhalla] that will be destroyed at the same time?

Answer: They will apply their replacement effects in turn order, in clockwise order. While we have an extensive chapter on replacement effects, this is a unique situation that never happened before (a situation where two different replacement effects try to replace different parts of an action, with two different players choosing replacement effects according to 910.2.).

So, we are including the following rule in the CR with immediate effect:

910.2h. If a situation that involves multiple objects and where replacement effects would replace the original situation for at least two involved objects independently, and those replacement effects are controlled by two different players, the turn player resolves their replacement effect(s) first completely in the proper order, or choosing the order if they happen at the same time, then the next player in clockwise order resolve their replacement effect(s) in the proper order, or choosing the order if they happen at the same time, and so on.

Question : And, in the same situation, what happens if the turn player puts with their replacement effect a Valkyrie with “cannot be chased” on the chase area?

Answer: The other replacement effect will search for the Valkyrie card, and if there is any, their controller will play the Valkyrie card. Unlike automatic abilities, which, although they can be put in the chase area when played with a card or effect that says "cannot chase" in the chase area, it is possible that their controller cannot do a certain part of the effect if that part includes "playing a card", replacement effects require their controller to do the whole part, without leaving anything out.

For clarification, we are including the following clarification in the CR with immediate effect:

1008.2.      An effect that says "cannot chase" to a card or an ability means "as long as the card or ability is in a chase area, you cannot put {another card/an ability that is not an automatic ability} into the chase area by playing them". Exceptions to this rule are cards that are played by the effect of a replacement effect. If a player is instructed to play a card by the effect of a replacement effect, they play it, ignoring that there is an effect that says "cannot chase".

Sanguinary Glyphologist, Ezold (JRV-081)

We have noticed that this card is not working as intended. Therefore, we are applying the following errata with immediate effect:

New text:

At end of turn >>> Put a blood counter on this card. If you are the turn player, you may remove six blood counters from this card. If you do, destroy up to one target damaged resonator.
